If you have ever called 911 from a cell phone, you may have been routed to the wrong 911 dispatcher.  This is a common problem in the Prospect, KY area because we are so close to Indiana.  The reason for this is when you make a call using a cell phone, the phone routes the call to the tower it is receiving the strongest signal from.  In many cases this happens to be a tower across the river,  and because both Kentucky and Indiana use the 911 service the tower routes the call to Indiana's 911 service.  The tower has no way of knowing that you need Kentucky's 911 service.  It just knows that you are connecting through an Indiana tower so it sends you to Indiana 911.  Because of this it is in your best interest whenever possible to make your 911 calls from a land line.  Obviously this is not always possible, but it will help reduce confusion and improve response times from your local emergency services.
